ID:IDH3B_HUMAN DESCRIPTION: RecName: Full=Isocitrate dehydrogenase [NAD] subunit beta, mitochondrial; EC=1.1.1.41; AltName: Full=Isocitric dehydrogenase subunit beta; AltName: Full=NAD(+)-specific ICDH subunit beta; Flags: Precursor; CATALYTIC ACTIVITY: Isocitrate + NAD(+) = 2-oxoglutarate + CO(2) + NADH. COFACTOR: Binds 1 magnesium or manganese ion per subunit (By similarity). SUBUNIT: Heterooligomer of subunits alpha, beta, and gamma in the apparent ratio of 2:1:1 (By similarity). SUBCELLULAR LOCATION: Mitochondrion. DISEASE: Defects in IDH3B are the cause of retinitis pigmentosa type 46 (RP46) [MIM:612572]. RP is a retinal dystrophy belonging to the group of pigmentary retinopathies. RP is characterized by retinal pigment deposits visible on fundus examination and primary loss of rod photoreceptor cells followed by secondary loss of cone photoreceptors. Patients typically have night vision blindness and loss of midperipheral visual field. As their condition progresses, they lose their far peripheral visual field and eventually central vision as well. SIMILARITY: Belongs to the isocitrate and isopropylmalate dehydrogenases family.
The RNAfold program from the Vienna RNA Package is used to perform the secondary structure predictions and folding calculations. The estimated folding energy is in kcal/mol. The more negative the energy, the more secondary structure the RNA is likely to have.

The pictures above may be empty if there is no ModBase structure for the protein. The ModBase structure frequently covers just a fragment of the protein. You may be asked to log onto ModBase the first time you click on the pictures. It is simplest after logging in to just click on the picture again to get to the specific info on that model.
Orthologous Genes in Other Species
Orthologies between human, mouse, and rat are computed by taking the best BLASTP hit, and filtering out non-syntenic hits. For more distant species reciprocal-best BLASTP hits are used. Note that the absence of an ortholog in the table below may reflect incomplete annotations in the other species rather than a true absence of the orthologous gene.
