ID:ERG_HUMAN DESCRIPTION: RecName: Full=Transcriptional regulator ERG; AltName: Full=Transforming protein ERG; FUNCTION: Transcriptional regulator. May participate in transcriptional regulation through the recruitment of SETDB1 histone methyltransferase and subsequent modification of local chromatin structure. SUBUNIT: Interacts with SETDB1 (By similarity). Identified in a mRNP granule complex, at least composed of ACTB, ACTN4, DHX9, ERG, HNRNPA1, HNRNPA2B1, HNRNPAB, HNRNPD, HNRNPL, HNRNPR, HNRNPU, HSPA1, HSPA8, IGF2BP1, ILF2, ILF3, NCBP1, NCL, PABPC1, PABPC4, PABPN1, RPLP0, RPS3, RPS3A, RPS4X, RPS8, RPS9, SYNCRIP, TROVE2, YBX1 and untranslated mRNAs. INTERACTION: P10275:AR; NbExp=2; IntAct=EBI-79704, EBI-608057; P09874:PARP1; NbExp=7; IntAct=EBI-79704, EBI-355676; SUBCELLULAR LOCATION: Nucleus. Cytoplasm. Note=Localized in cytoplasmic mRNP granules containing untranslated mRNAs. DISEASE: Defects in ERG are a cause of Ewing sarcoma (ES) [MIM:612219]. A highly malignant, metastatic, primitive small round cell tumor of bone and soft tissue that affects children and adolescents. It belongs to the Ewing sarcoma family of tumors, a group of morphologically heterogeneous neoplasms that share the same cytogenetic features. They are considered neural tumors derived from cells of the neural crest. Ewing sarcoma represents the less differentiated form of the tumors. Note=A chromosomal aberration involving ERG is found in patients with Erwing sarcoma. Translocation t(21;22)(q22;q12) with EWSR1. DISEASE: Note=Chromosomal aberrations involving ERG have been found in acute myeloid leukemia (AML). Translocation t(16;21)(p11;q22) with FUS. Translocation t(X;21)(q25-26;q22) with ELF4. SIMILARITY: Belongs to the ETS family. SIMILARITY: Contains 1 ETS DNA-binding domain. SIMILARITY: Contains 1 PNT (pointed) domain. The RNAfold program from the Vienna RNA Package is used to perform the secondary structure predictions and folding calculations. The estimated folding energy is in kcal/mol. The more negative the energy, the more secondary structure the RNA is likely to have.

The pictures above may be empty if there is no ModBase structure for the protein. The ModBase structure frequently covers just a fragment of the protein. You may be asked to log onto ModBase the first time you click on the pictures. It is simplest after logging in to just click on the picture again to get to the specific info on that model.
Orthologous Genes in Other Species
Orthologies between human, mouse, and rat are computed by taking the best BLASTP hit, and filtering out non-syntenic hits. For more distant species reciprocal-best BLASTP hits are used. Note that the absence of an ortholog in the table below may reflect incomplete annotations in the other species rather than a true absence of the orthologous gene.
